Hey folks
Happy New Year! I had a fairly good holiday spending a week and a half in Dumfries, which was great, got to catch up with friends, go out to the infamous Jumpin’ Jaks and spend my New Years Eve the same way i have for the past 4 years (God is it really that long??) in my local pub. Fantastic.
Anyway the real reason for this post is to come up with some interesting new things for Compsoc todo. Recently we’ve been getting a little stick for not having different types of events, especially ones that don’t involve alcohol (?!). We’ve come up with the basic ideas Bowling, Laser Quest and well thats about it…
We need ideas to get everyone who does computing to get involved, nothing overly geeky, or overly expensive, but any ideas would be much appreciated.
Have fun,

The problem you’ve got is really a cultural issue. You have the people who want more than just drinking, and the people who don’t see the point in wasting their time in not drinking. Sadly, the later group is much larger in this area of the world.
The only idea I’ve liked for this recently (having had the same problem at work) is a treasure hunt. You know, clues, time limits, teams, prizes, exploration of the city. It’s a fair bit more work to set-up than a pub quiz, but it’s quite different.
Film night?
(War Games, Antitrust, Swordfish, Hackers, Tron .etc)
You never know. Could be fun
