You wait ages for one post and then two come along at once.

I realise that as yet I haven’t made any post on the joys of my brand new 20Gb ipod. It is the best thing I have ever bought. Even the awful task of cleaning my kitchen and bathroom could be exciting with music blaring from my very stylish white earphones.

The adverts for the ipod are true, you do find yourself not realising that other people may be around when you have music on, I was dancing around ipod in one hand, mop in the other. Fantastic.

Not so fantastic however when I almost broke my whole body. This may take a little explaining and there is absolutely no logic to what I was doing.

Picture the scene. My kitchen has been flooded I have just mopped the floor and cleaned as much of the excess wetness on all the surfaces. I realise that the water had been coming from the ceiling and therefore could be lying in huge puddles on top of the wall units.

I got up on top of the worktop (I had at least taken my heels off at this point figuring that would just be plain stupid). Dancing around to Britney Spears’ “My Prerogitive” on top of the wet worktop, when the obvious happened and I slipped.

This is probably one of the only times (and I’m sure it will probably be the last) when I thanked god that my kitchen is so small that you can’t fit more than two people in it. Instead of plummeting to a certain painful landing on my back, I bashed my arm on the opposite wall hence not doing myself any damage whatsoever.

But don’t worry ipod i don’t blame you at all…

Till next time

The best laid plans

Monday, October 18th, 2004

After not getting any work done this weekend (thanks Ali for the great dinner on Sat night) I thought I would rectify this by going in early to the lab. Sitting there at 10.10 I get a phonecall from my flatmate. Ten minutes later i am back in my flat watching the rain fall in my kitchen.

I mean pour down the walls and drip off the light fittings. I had the joys of trying to switch the water off, trying to unscrew stuff while being rained on by water from an undisclosed source which smelt “funny” is not fun at all. After switching the water off made no noticable difference at all - I phoned the plumber.

The man was possibly the most annoying person I had ever spoken to, he seemed to find my plight funny and what’s worse kept saying “calm down love it’s only water”. However by far his “funniest” comment was when I asked when he could come and try and fix the problem.

“Is tomorrow morning ok?”

Before I started screaming at him down the phone, he said “Don’t worry I’ll be round ASAP.”

Ha bloody ha, some sense of humor on that bloke.

The only good thing is that he was actually round within 10 minutes, turning out to be just as annoying in the flesh as he was on the phone. The problem turned out to be the old women on the third floor flooding her washing machine, so no need for a plumber and I still managed to make it in to be only 5 minutes late for my 11 o’clock PSD lecture.

So really it may have managed to waste what could have been a complete mornings work, but only 50 minutes to get back to the flat phone a plumber, them to turn up, isolate the problem and then leave I think is pretty damn good going.

The most pointless post ever?

Sunday, October 10th, 2004

I have realised that I haven’t posted for a while, I was intending to say that it wasn’t because I couldn’t think of something to post about but mainly just cause i was too busy.

However after starting to write up the above idea for a post I realised that I don’t actually have anything of note to say. At all. In fact I am feeling the continued stress of trying to come up with new and interesting things to say. In fact for tonight I think I may just give up and hope some time tomorrow I have some sort of brain wave with a decent idea to write about.

Anyway sorry for wasting your time with the most completely pointless post ever… (is there worse?)

Another day another drama…

Sunday, October 3rd, 2004

Although in saying that not a day like any other. I could go into detail about all the stuff that happened but it would be much easier and less time consuming for me just to give you the link to Matt “My Hero” Gemmell’s description.
As unbelievable as it sounds(it still being a lot more believable than Sky Captain) it is actually all true!!

Anyway another topsy-turvey day playing the damsel in distress, which I play very well i hasten to add. Although this possibly puts woman’s rights back a few decades, does become very usefull when there is a computing assignment to be handed in…

So a tiring day nonetheless, so with that i will sign out.

Have fun folks…

P.S. sorry if this makes no sense whatsoever.

Welcome to the Lauren Dempster Show….

Saturday, October 2nd, 2004

Hey,

Suddenly realised that i hadn’t blogged for a couple of days. I suppose the only reason for this is that I haven’t had a spare minute, what with PAL, Ron Poet’s “great” Unix course and trying to catch up with folk.

During one such catch up with a friend we were chatting about how everyday I come into Uni something else new, usually bad and concerning my ever topsy-turvey love life has happened.

Rather like a soap opera, in fact, this is not the first time this comparison has been made…..

A couple of years back, when everyone was writing their profiles for the School Year book. I was having a disussion with one of my friends on the subject of what we would be ‘Most likely to be…’. There were the obvious ones, you know at every school there is always most likely to be in ‘a Colgate advert’, ‘in prison’, ’still living with the parents’ and ‘trying to take over the world’, none of these really applying to us we had to come up with some new ones. After some deliberation (and me ignoring her first suggestion) she said that i was most likely “to be living in a soap opera”.

At the time I thought maybe she was over-reacting, I mean I was only 17 or something at the time things aren’t meant to run smoothly then. Looking back I’ve never really stopped being like that, so I suppose she did make a very good point.

I always seem to muck everything up. When anything goes right, I somehow seem to muck that up to. It’s a skill I should really have grown out of…

Anyway until that happens, I wouldn’t count on it though, I’m sure I will still be going into Uni every morning with another new and exciting (for anyone not involved) installment of the Lauren Dempster Show.

Watch this space!

A Damn Good Concert

Monday, September 27th, 2004

Oh baby oh baby,

This has been some night, I thought I liked McFly before but really after tonights concert I’m in love. Not with the guys really, shock horror, but the music man, it ROCKS!!!!!!!

I know you guys will say they are not a real band, but what does that really mean? They write their own songs, play and sing live and sell lots of songs. What more is there?

So their music is popular with young girls and they are fairly attractive guys with lots of hair gel. The music is popular because every second song isn’t so depressing it makes you wanna die. Is there not a place in everyones music collection for music that makes you wanna get out of your bed on the bad days and jump around like a loon doing airguitar? Maybe that’s just me then………

Ok what started off as a blog post on a damn good concert I went to tonight has become a huge rant on why Mcfly and, to a now lesser extent, Busted should be given more of a chance. Some of their stuff is damn ace, I dare all of you, every single one to give them a shot.

Good night Glasgow we love you,

Laurenxxx

Attack of the Spiders!!

Saturday, September 25th, 2004

So still in Dumfries and having a fairly decent time chillin’ and not doing anything, especially not Java (by the way my back still hurts cause of that damn text book)!

So me and my sister are sitting at home (yes I know another night in, two in a row in fact - don’t worry I won’t make it too much of a habit) watching Ocean’s Eleven - good film by the way, lots of cute guys - and out the corner of my eye is a huge (insert obscenity here, my suggestion starts with f) spider. I don’t particularly like spiders, but unlike my sex and hair colour would suggest I didn’t scream and jump on top of my chair, no I calmly found a glass and trapped it under it. Now mainly because I am lazy and partly because I was trying to watch George Clooney and Brad Pitt I left the spider under the glass and didn’t bother to move it.

However later on I hear a scream as my sister sees another identical (in size at least) spider running across the floor towards me, unable to find the energy to trap this second spider I left it when it ran behind the cabinet.

The best bit by far tonight though was when my sis got up to go to the toilet and not remembering what was in the glass, knocked it over, queue one very slow motion moment with a-Ewan-McGregor-in-Star-Wars-EpisodeI style “Noooooooo!!!” (and if you don’t know what I am talking about then I suggest you re-watch the film, or possibly just the main fight scene towards the end). Anyway apart from the very geeky Star Wars quote I’m trying to say the spider escaped. Then there were two.

So all night I have been plagued by these spiders, and every time i feel a draft past my leg I am convinced there is a spider running up it. So with that thought I shall go to bed and try to get some sleep.

Back in Sunny D

Friday, September 24th, 2004

Howdy from Dumfries.

So I’ve had a relatively good day today, but my legs are completely killing me!!! I ended up walking a huge distance today as when I got back to Sunny D (if you have ever been to Dumfries, you’ll realise the sarcasm in this statement, if not count yourself lucky) I realised that I had forgotten my keys, what is a girl to do with 2 hours to kill before the rents get home from work?
The answer is easy, shop. Unfortunately I was also carrying round all my stuff for the weekend in a bag, including the very sexy Level 3 Java Course Textbook. Now my back is killing me and it’s my own stupid fault for leaving my keys behind - again….
On the plus side I did find an incredible pair of boots on my shopping travels and may go back into town tomorrow to buy them.
Sorry just remembered that most of the people reading this post will be Comp Sci guys, who will be more than likely be bored senseless with the talk of shopping and especially shoes…
Then again maybe the S’s may be interested…. (Sorry guys for yet another cheap shot, but it was so damn funny).

Anyway you all have fun, while I am sat at home posting… Oh dear I think i may have just moved up at least 5% on the geek test just for this one night alone.

The Dawning postponed….

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2004

Hey,
so i felt it time to make another post and to say that ok, so i haven’t really sorted my life out just quite yet. Hopefully by this weekend will mean that my life is going to get back to some level of normality, one way or another.

Of course next week i have the added joyness of 3rd CS Honours starting with of course Ron Poet, who i am told is a great lecture and i should have absolutely othing to worry about….. :)And I’m sure that once i’m back at uni everything will be so much clearer I hope.

I’m sorry to say i’m probably not making that much sense, but i have been drinking so forgive me. Will post something slightly more worthwhile soon

The dawning of a new era………

Sunday, September 19th, 2004

For the past couple of days I have sort of been wallowing in the past, feeling extremely sorry for myself and drinking way too much.

I would like to announce now that I am over the depressing stage, cheering myself up by listening to a little Busted, maybe not the coolest band in the world but hey at least they don’t play sad songs.

(Just like to say thanks to all those who have been listening to me moaning on - you guys know who you are, thanks).

It’s been an interesting weekend and hopefully from now on things in my life won’t be so topsy turvey and I’ll have lots of happy cheery posts to make in the future.

So on that note I am going to go and eat something

Lauren :)
